You can make a beautiful wedding candy buffet, or one for any party, if you follow these 5 simple but important steps.  If you do, you'll have a great event that everyone will love!

Step One

Your first step is to start early!  It doesn't matter how far off your wedding or other event is; start now!  It can take months to plan everything including a wedding candy buffet, so don't wait until the last minute.

Step Two

Your next step is to make a list of the candies you want to have.  Make a note of candies you absolutely must have; these typically include both varieties of M&M's, Reese's Pieces, jelly beans, and an assortment of fun-sized candy bars.  You might also include Skittles, Mike & Ike, Hot Tamales, and Twizzlers.

If you're stuck for ideas, visit a bulk candy store or a warehouse style food store, where you'll probably purchase the items for your wedding candy buffet.  Make a note of what they have and you'll be surprised at how many choices you have.

Step Three

Once you have your list completed, you'll want to shop for glass bowls and containers.  This is one reason you want to shop early; to save money, you should keep your list of candies with you and then watch out for sales every time you're at the store.  If you just buy your containers all at once or online, you'll wind up spending quite a bit of money that you could have saved otherwise.

Remember that you want your containers to be on the large size; what might work as a display candy dish at home won't work for a wedding candy buffet!

Step Four

When you buy containers, take them home and immediately decide what candies will go in what dish.  Cross off these candies from your list so it's always current and you don't wind up buying containers you don't need.

Step Five

Your last step is very important; do not buy your scoops or ladles until you first purchase your glass containers.  This is because tall, deep containers usually work better with a ladle rather than a scoop.  Many ladles made specifically for wedding candy buffets are curved at the top so you can rest this lip over the side of your container.  Smaller containers mean smaller scoops or ladles, so get your containers finalized and then order the accessories you need when this is done.

One final note ...

You may be shopping and see a glass container that is just too beautiful or fun to pass up; go ahead and purchase it and assign it a candy.  While the candies you absolutely want for your wedding candy buffet should take precedence when shopping, you can always find other items to put in those containers you love.
