Planning a wedding candy buffet can get expensive, when you think of the cost of candy as well as for the jars and other accessories.  However, you don't want to skimp on those containers because the way your buffet looks is just as important as the candy you're serving!

This means it's good to think of how and where to get the best jars and containers for your wedding candy buffet, without breaking your budget.  There are two keys to doing this successfully and effectively:

1.  Shop early.

2.  Shop around.

These may seem like very simple tips, but it's surprising how often a bride will plan a wedding candy buffet and will wait until the last minute to get what she needs, and then will simply order all the container from the internet or will run to her local Target store and buy what she needs.  This is no way to save money, or to ensure you get the containers you need.  A good wedding candy buffet takes planning.

To find the best containers for your wedding candy buffet, first make a list of the candies you want.  This will tell you the containers and jars you need:

1.  For wrapped items like miniature candy bars, you can use penny candy jars like the one pictured.  These typically have lids and you can simply reach inside them, rather than using a scoop or ladle.

2.  For bulk and loose candy, you'll need jars and containers that are more open and that will fit that scoop.

This is why you need to plan your wedding candy buffet in advance; you need to note the different containers and accessories you'll need.

Once you have your list in hand, you need to start looking for the containers and jars you'll need for your wedding candy buffet.  The first thing you can do is look around your home; you may be surprised at the decorative items you can use, which means saving you money.  Many items can be cleaned thoroughly and used on your wedding candy buffet.  Go through your kitchen, bathroom, and every room of the house.  Think:

trifle dishes

cake plates or cake plate covers which can be inverted

mason jars

canning jars

large clear candle holders

decorative bowls on your tables or shelves

glass storage containers in the bathroom

Obviously these will need to be cleaned thoroughly but they can then be used for your wedding candy buffet.

When you've gone through all the items you may have at home, then you need to make a list of the additional containers and jars you need and start shopping.  Start with resale shops and flea markets near your home.  Go to discount retail stores; those that offer closeout items are often good for finding bargains.  When you find containers you can use for your wedding candy buffet, cross them off your list and continue shopping.

If you do this rather than waiting until the last minute or shopping at your local retailer, you can save quite a bit of money on the cost of your wedding candy buffet.  Remember to look at potential containers with an eye for how they'll look filled with candy; you may not like a particular bowl or vase on its own, but think of it filled with a colorful candy and wrapped with a wide ribbon, and you may see it's a great choice.  Use your imagination and you may be surprised at where and how you find containers and jars for your wedding candy buffet.
